Job Description
Help produce high quantity/quality forage for the dairy
Make sure crops are planted in a timely manner
Manage farm employees; irrigators and tractor drivers
Manage lagoon water
- Keep lagoon as clean as possible by utilizing clean water pump to flush solids out and therefore concentrations low
- Manage lagoon level and overflow potential, especially before a rain event
- Keep track of applications and rates in Nutrient Application notebook
Maintain farm equipment
- Perform and insure timely maintenance
- Line up any needed major repairs
Maintain clean and neat environment
- Weed & rodent control
- Groomed roads & aprons to prevent potholes and to ensure proper runoff
- Litter free
Assist in harvest
- Work with chopping company
- Ensure timely and efficient harvest
- Manage hay harvest including swathing, raking, and dry chop
Work with PCA
- Test field prior to harvest to avoid waiting for lab results
- Decide on fertilizer & plan of application
Miscellaneous
- Be physically fit and able to lift at least 50 pounds
- Try to minimize/combine trips to town
- Be aware of weather forecasts and how it applies to the dairy & farm
- Be open minded to new ideas
- Bilingual required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
