Summary: The Sow Farm Manager is responsible for managing daily production tasks such as, barn goals, overseeing administration and needs of barn employees.

Location(s): Amboy, Minnesota

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Production:

Maintain production levels at or above WPI standards
Operate barns at full capacity, maintaining production at or above targets
Run barns at high efficiency; facilitating resolutions in a timely manner
Maintain the foresight to know barn needs in the next week/month
Understand, follow, and enforce WPI’s biosecurity protocols, keeping employee awareness high
Knowledge of HEPA filtration is required
Work with and support the barns Biosecurity officers’ programs and duties
See that job performance follows standards set in WPI procedure manuals
Conduct research trials when applicable to the barn
Help facilitate cleanliness, maintenance, and general upkeep of barns inside and outside
Ensure production records are accurate and current
Stay active in the day-to-day production of barn

Administration:

Integrate office-mandated protocol into barn structure
Facilitate solutions to new hire and employee training so job functions are well understood
Manage employee work schedules; maintain adequate workforce for efficient operation of barn
Facilitate solutions to employee issues; enforce disciplinary action when required
Make sure barn is properly stocked with clothes, medications, supplies, etc.
Operate barn with safe equipment
Close down barn at end of day

Leadership:

Communicate and promote WPI’s core values and goals to employees
Manage and provide leadership to all barn employees
Facilitate farm staff meetings so employees stay current, engaged, and motivated
Work with and support the barn Safety Representative, Bio-Security Officer, Rookie Guru and Department Trainers, allowing them the time needed to complete his or her duties
Protect and promote the company image at all times through the We Care ethical principals
Attend all WPI management and leadership training seminars

Basic Qualifications:

One-year minimum experience as Sow Farm Department Lead or equivalent experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to have difficult conversations and achieve desired results
Exhibit strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate others
Strong interest in team building and staff development
Must be self-motivated and hard working
Excellent production skills
Excellent problem solving skills
Exemplary attendance record
Exhibit good moral standards
Must maintain PQA Plus and TQA certifications

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the farm; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb 3-foot gates, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 50 pounds. Position requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Frequently required, for extended periods of time, to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and communicate.

Organizational Relationships:
Interacts closely with farm staff, other Sow Farm Managers, and Wakefield Pork staff.

Hours:
Typically- Monday – Friday; 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Every 3rd weekend rotational schedule.
