Objective:
Greenacres is looking for a Stable Supervisor who is motivated to share their love of horsemanship, primarily with children, along with anyone who has the curiosity to be lifelong learners. Greenacres provides the highest quality educational programming to schools, scouts, garden clubs, church groups, community groups, summer camps and in-house organized general public programs. Typically, scheduled Monday through Friday with a seasonal schedule: September May 7:00AM 4:00PM and June August 12:00PM 9:00PM with an occasional weekend schedule. The Stable Supervisor will assist the Equine Manager to develop plans, processes, procedures and set goals that are consistent with implementing the Mission, Vision and Values of Greenacres.
The Stable Supervisor position works under the supervision of the Equine Manager to assure that all aspects of Greenacres reflect the Mission and Values and a culture of transparency, honesty and integrity.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Stable Supervisor will include but are not limited to:
Stable Management:
Manage GEC hourly stable staff develop employee schedules and manage PTO request to ensure coverage 7 days a week
Participate in GEC interviews for Stable Hands and train new hires
Direct and oversee stable hands to maintain a clean barn, safe work environment and healthy herd
Maintain and adjust daily stable hand sheets as necessary
Complete regular 1:1s with stable hands and help set goals for growth opportunities
Assist in day- to- day tasks including:
Feeding, watering, cleaning stalls and cleaning the dry lot when in use
Putting out and checking water troughs and salt blocks in the correct pastures
Ensure the barn and equipment are clean and well maintained
Be the point person for submitting work orders for the stable up keep and pastures
Attend weekly meetings with Equine Manager and Equine Education Supervisor to discuss needs within the barn, horses, Stable Hands, etc.
Follow-up with direct reports after weekly meetings with Equine Manager and Equine Educator Supervisor to report back any major changes to the team
Be the point person for vendors including routine vet appointments, farrier, dentist, chiropractor, etc.
Order supplies including grain, hay, shavings, etc.
Maintain up to date Equine Record Binders and SOPs
Collaborate with Equine Manager during Equine Emergencies. If Equine Manager is unavailable, make appropriate decisions after discussing all options with the vet
Manage horse care and med charts including hoof soaking, equine first aid, cold hosing, dressing changes, administering equine medications (oral, IM, IV), etc.
Oversee equine maintenance to include equine weight management, sheath cleaning, body clipping, as needed
Support Equine Educators during programming, as needed
Pasture Management:
Complete temp lining in pastures during grazing season (April-December)
Collaborate with the Agriculture Department for pasture rotations and management
Point person to put round bales out as needed (in dry lot and in pastures for bale grazing)
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Associates or Bachelors Degree or comparable academic achievement or equivalent experientially gained knowledge.
2+ years experience in an equine supervisory role that includes supervising employees
Experience operating vehicles and powering equipment, such as trucks, tractor, spreader, and horse trailers.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, including executives, managers, children and adults and subject matter experts.
Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Ability to work with both internal and external partners with the same or very different backgrounds to ensure that all who visit Greenacres get the highest quality experience that addresses their needs.
Knowledge or proven ability to obtain knowledge of best practices in Horsemanship and Care.
Ability to be a dedicated part of a team to assure QQQ, Grace, Green, Giving, Generative and Good Neighbor Policy.
Experience operating vehicles and powering equipment, such as trucks, tractor, spreader, and horse trailers.
Ability to successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test and fingerprint FBI background screen.
