Job Description
Under the direction of the supervisor, the Student Hourly Assistant will assist the Researcher in carrying out routine research processes. This position will enhance the overall operations of the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center by helping in fulfilling NIFA goals and CAHS objectives.
Responsibilities:
Engage in a guided approach to hypothesis driven research activities related to Animal System studies to include animal health and wellbeing, ruminant nutrition, reproductive biology, growth and development, functional genomics, meat science, and systems biology and physiology using goats, cattle, or poultry for both fundamental and applied research activities
Participate in literature search, independent work in laboratory and on our university farm, data collection, dissemination of research findings at local, state and national conferences
Contribute to the development of peer reviewed journal papers
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
No prior experience necessary
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Working towards BS degree in agriculture, computer science, engineering or the sciences; preference will be given to applicants with a strong willingness to work in agriculturally related projects under variable and sometimes extreme conditions in the field and long hours of bench work in the laboratory
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work with Microsoft PowerPoint/Excel
Ability to communicate effectively, present data, and perform other computer related tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others
Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift occasionally.
Ability to work in outside climate/environment
Other Requirements:
Ability to work effectively and independently to meet target goals and deadlines
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to multi-task
Must be responsible
