The mission of Bethany’s Gait Ranch is to rescue, rehabilitate, and restore the lives of military (active & veteran), first responders, their families, and horses in need.

Position Description for Weekend Ranch Hand

Hours: Sun. 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

General: The Ranch Hand must be in good health and willing/able to perform physical labor (must be able to lift and move up to 80 pounds), including operating ranch equipment (quad, tractor). Must have experience working with horses in the western discipline; experience in a recognized form of natural horsemanship is preferred but not necessary. Must be well organized, have excellent communication skills, be a self-starter and work well independently.

The Ranch Hand is responsible for the care/maintenance of animals at the ranch, reporting directly to the Ranch Manager. Duties may include all or some of the following:

1. Perform Daily Animal Care on scheduled shifts:

a. Clean all pastures and pens

b. Feed horses, goats & cat, including medications & supplements

c. Train volunteers working on scheduled shifts

2. Under Ranch Manager direction, when required:

a. Assist with routine veterinary care, including vaccinations, fecal testing, etc.

b. On each shift, assess all animals for general health

c. Provide first aid when necessary

3. Under Ranch Manager direction, perform general maintenance of ranch:

a. Clean barn & tack room, including cleaning of tack

b. Maintenance of arena, round pen and pastures, including dragging.

4. Responsible for Grain/Supplements/Meds – Let Ranch Manager know when we are getting low on feed/supps/meds to ensure we have an adequate amount on hand at all times.

5. Other duties as required

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 per hour

Experience:

• Horse: 1 year (Preferred)
