Organic Farm Crew in Ferrum, VA

About the Farm

We are a small-scale, certified organic vegetable farm located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains at 1690 Republican Church Rd., Ferrum, VA 24088. We grow a wide variety of vegetables in a no-till system on about 1 acre of field and protected high-tunnel space for direct sale through farmers markets and an online ordering system.

We are 10 minutes from Ferrum College, 20 minutes from Rocky Mount, VA
1 hour from Roanoke and about 1 hour from Smith Mountain Lake.

About the Job

We are hiring for full-time seasonal and part-time seasonal positions with some flexibility on start and end dates. Our main season runs ~April-October, employment opportunities for duration of season or for summer positions working around school schedules. Workday start times may vary through the season but begin as early as 6- 6:30 am peak season to avoid working in the midday heat to the extent possible.

Job responsibilities would cover most aspects of the operation including but not limited to :
-Bed preparation
-transplanting and seeding
-harvesting
-washing/packaging
– greenhouse seeding and propagation of transplants
-weeding/cultivating ( proactive management of weeds, pests, disease)
-trellising/pruning/maintenance of greenhouse tomatoes
– assistance with farmers market sales depending on schedule

-is able to stand/walk/move during entire work day
-is able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch
-is able to work independently and as part of a team

-is punctual for early morning start times
-has a positive attitude
-has a valid driver’s license
-is local to our operation as no on-farm housing is available at this time
