*JOB OVERVIEW*
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Wastewater Operator to lead our wastewater treatment operations with energy and precision. *DUTIES*

· The Chief Operator reports to the Wastewater Superintendent, but usually works independently on daily activities.

· The Chief Operator has supervisory authority over the Operators, Laboratory Technician, and any other employee assigned permanently or temporarily to the Wastewater Treatment / Composting Division.

· Management of the activities of the Wastewater Treatment/Composting Division of the Public Works Department.

· Responsible for the procurement of all supplies and inventory relating to the Division.

· Responsible for the treatment and quality of the municipal wastewater discharge.

· Assists the Superintendent in budget research, preparation, and budget management.

· Is responsible for accurately filing all necessary State and Federal forms and/or reports on a timely basis.

· Confers with and works in cooperation with State, Federal, and Local Officials.

· Maintains accurate records of wastewater quality and quantity.

· Actively participates in the operations of the treatment such as screening, grit removal, filtration, sedimentation, disinfection, sludge processing, pumping and composting.

· May collect samples of wastewater for analysis.

· Attends seminars and conventions as necessary to maintain necessary credits to remain licensed.

· Assumes lead role in the evaluation of divisional employees.

· Actively participates and advises the Wastewater Superintendent of general division policy formulation.

· Assigns work duties to divisional employees.

· Responsible for the maintenance of discipline and work habits in the division.

*SKILLS*

· Ability to supervise and lead work groups.

· Knowledge of effective supervision techniques and practices.

· Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, equipment and techniques commonly used in wastewater treatment.

· Ability to maintain records sufficient to organize and document divisional activity.

· Ability to interpret division work plans into a form understandable to subordinate workers.

· Appropriate oral communication skills and writing ability are a must.

· Ability to evaluate employees and administer disciplinary action whenever necessary.

· Knowledge of safety procedures in all related functions.

· Ability to meet with and deal with the public, State and Federal employees.

*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE*

· A High School Diploma or GED with supplemental courses relating to wastewater treatment.

· Possession of a Vermont Class IV Certification of Wastewater Treatment.

· Possession of a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

· An established record of good work habits including punctuality, dependability, and being able to follow directions.

· An understanding of the concept of job safety and a record of safe performance.

*WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:*

· Required to work under all weather conditions.

· Working overtime is required.
