We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our team at Stagecoach Stables — an equestrian facility in Ames, IA. This role is responsible for facilities, grounds, and equipment management to support the overall operation of the property.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, dependable, and takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning environment, and has experience in farm maintenance, repairs, and equipment operation.
Responsibilities:
*1. Facilities & Grounds Maintenance*
Perform routine and preventative maintenance to ensure the cleanliness, safety, organization, and functionality of the facility. This includes, but is not limited to, fence repair, arena maintenance, lawn care, seasonal tasks (snow removal, winterizing, etc.), and upkeep of private roads and parking areas.
*2. Pasture & Property Management*
Assist in maintaining healthy and functional pasture spaces through mowing, weed control, fertilizing, and general land management to support optimal conditions for horses.
*3. Equipment Operation & Upkeep*
Safely operate and maintain farm equipment (tractors, loaders, spreaders, utility vehicles, etc.). Perform routine inspections, basic maintenance, and ensure equipment is in good working order.
*4. Feed, Hay & Daily Operations Support*
Support the management and distribution of hay and other essential resources. This includes handling, organizing, and maintaining feeding storage and systems (e.g., hay feeders), monitoring supply levels, and contributing to the efficiency of daily operations.
*5. Projects & Property Improvement*_s_
Take ownership of facility projects and improvements, such as building or repairing structures (e.g., hay feeders), improving systems, and identifying areas where the property can function more efficiently. This role requires initiative, problem-solving, and the ability to follow projects through from start to finish.
*6. Team Collaboration*
Work closely with the owner, managers, and staff to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard, contributing to a positive and team-oriented work environment.
Qualifications:
– Experience operating farm equipment safely and efficiently.
– Experience providing basic maintenance of facilities, fencing, and vehicles.
– Knowledge to perform minor indoor and outdoor maintenance repairs is required.
– Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
– Proven self-starter and strong work ethic.
– Do-it-right mindset.
– Commitment to excellence in cleanliness, organization, and attention to detail.
– Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
– Basic knowledge of horse care is a plus, but not required.
We offer competitive hourly compensation and a friendly and supportive work environment.
This position is expected to average approximately 32–40 hours per week, with potential for increased hours during peak seasons (Spring/Summer/Fall).
