Job Description Summary:
The Poultry Selection Crew Member evaluates and selects birds according to company standards for animal welfare, health, and breeding criteria. This role requires attention to detail, consistent observation skills, accurate data entry, and the ability to work hands-on with live poultry in a farm environment.
This position is a strong fit for someone who is dependable, observant, detail-oriented, and comfortable with hands-on animal work. Successful team members are able to stay focused during repetitive tasks, follow procedures consistently, work cooperatively with others, and take pride in making accurate observations in a farm environment.
Team members work closely with others to ensure birds are handled humanely while maintaining strict biosecurity and safety standards.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain strict biosecurity and animal welfare standards at all times
Observe and evaluate birds using established selection criteria
Perform physical observations and measurements on live poultry
Accurately record observations and measurements in company systems
Use tools and equipment such as barcode scanners and measurement instruments
Identify and move selected birds to designated locations
Report concerns related to animal welfare, safety, or biosecurity through proper channels
Work cooperatively with team members to complete daily production goals
Follow all company safety procedures and operational guidelines
Qualifications
Strong attention to detail and observation skills
Ability to learn and consistently apply selection and grading criteria
Basic computer and data entry skills
Ability to accurately record measurements using the metric system
Ability to work independently while remaining part of a team
Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and personal responsibility
Willingness to work in a farm environment with live animals
Physical Requirements
Routinely handle and interact with live poultry
Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
Stand and walk for extended periods
Frequently bend, stoop, grip, grasp, and twist throughout the shift
Work in dusty, damp, wet, hot, and cold environments
Tolerate ongoing exposure to farm-related odors and cleaning chemicals
Ability to work weekends, holidays, and up to 6 days per week as needed
Work Environment
This position is performed in a poultry farm environment and involves regular exposure to live animals, dust, feathers, moisture, temperature extremes, and farm-related odors. Team members are expected to follow all animal welfare, safety, and biosecurity protocols.
