*Overview:*

Nestled within the sprawling horse farms of Central Kentucky lies a 50 year-old castle on a hill with sweeping views of 110 acres of farmland wherever one might look or explore. The Kentucky Castle is truly a unique property that draws many to experience its architectural beauty, mystery and landscape.

The Kentucky Castle resides on a small working farm – growing and expanding guests’ stay and experiences. We operate a well maintained property that strives to care for its staff, land, guests and animals. To excel in this position, this candidate must display a desire and understanding about working on a farm. This candidate must also display an understanding of what it means to be empathetically hospitable as well as committed to creating special memories and experiences for guests as it pertains to The Kentucky Castle’s mission, vision, core values and standard operating procedures. Additionally, this candidate must have an understanding and appreciation of health and wellness as well as display a level of professionalism, a warm and kind demeanor and an ability to be a consistent and reliable team player.

This position is full-time.

*Supervision:* Director of Health & Wellness

*Primary Purpose of this Position:*

This key individual is responsible for the general upkeep of the barn, grounds, farm animals and farm equipment to provide safe, functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces for staff and guests alike. The Farm Attendant position provides an essential role in keeping the property in working order while collaborating with our Locust Trace partner all departments via general maintenance, landscaping, repairs, animal welfare and improvements property-wide.

*Key Responsibilities:*

* Arrive on time, ready and prepared for the day.
* Ability and understanding of working on a farm with farm animals of all types and sizes.
* Ability to work outdoors in all elements and seasons.
* Assist in all areas of the Farm operations as requested by management.
* Ability to follow instructions as well as work without constant supervision to complete tasks and projects.
* Takes initiative to maintain a safe, clean, professional work environment daily.
* Deal with reasonable complaints/requests with professionalism and patience.
* Ability to maintain eye contact and a warm, kind demeanor at all times with guests, management and staff.
* Be flexible and prioritize and manage time effectively.
* Work quickly without compromising quality.
* Communicate effectively and timely to management any and all occurrences involving staff or guests that require attention.
* Maintain The Kentucky Castle Farm Standards as well as Standard Operating Procedures at all times.
* Be familiar with The Kentucky Castle property policies and procedures as well as hospitality terminology.
* Regularly attend, participate in and support training and staff meetings.

*Key Duties:*

* Participate in the daily responsibilities related to daily farm animal care including feeding, watering, herding, grooming, catching and loading, and cleaning stalls.
* Ability to feed and turn in/out daily of all animals.
* Assist with maintenance and fencing, mowing and rotation schedules.
* General maintenance, grounds and upkeep of guest facing areas at The Farm.
* Custodial duties include the cleanliness of the barn and the surrounding grounds: vacuuming and mopping floors, sanitizing restroom facilities and collecting trash to ensure the building’s occupants have a clean and safe space.
* Observe and report any damages to respective departments, unsafe conditions or facility related problems to the appropriate department.
* Detecting, identifying, repairing if able and reporting building issues (e.g. basic problems with the building’s electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems) to appropriate department.
* Collaborating with Farm management and various departments and managers to complete special projects.
* Protect equipment and make sure that everything is in good working order.
* Check stocking levels of all consumables and replace them when appropriate.

*Key Requirements & Qualifications:*

* Farm equipment experience is strongly preferred.
* Proficient in how to safely operate professional farm equipment.
* Organized and able to prioritize a full and diverse workload, take initiative and be proactive at completing tasks.
* Solutions-oriented approach to solving problems.
* Professionally mature with strong interpersonal skills.
* Willing to keep an open mind to ideas and inputs while actively contributing.
* Willing to work in a variety of weather conditions and able to lift 50+ pounds when needed.
* Able to work independently and enjoy working in teams.
* Able to effectively communicate.
* Able to cope with the physical needs of the job and enjoy outdoor work, despite adverse weather conditions.
* Due to the nature of the farming industry, the employee may be required to work longer hours and varying schedules to reflect the business needs, which may include oncall, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
* Must be able to work 8 hour shifts.
* Must have no criminal history, a non-smoker on property, resume/references required.

*This is a highly physical role. *While performing these job duties, this candidate is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time (e.g., up to 8 hours or longer). The candidate is required to use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation. The employee is also required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level. The employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, moving machinery, food allergens, and cleaning agents. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 – $17.00 per hour
