Ranch hand needed at a private small equine breeding farm and dressage training barn in the beautiful Corralitos Hills.
Work on a small horse breeding farm owned by a veterinarian. This is a part time job. 10 to 25 hours per week. This includes yard work, tractor work, mowing, weed whacking, manure spreading, gardening, handyman projects and maintenance. You must have 2 years extensive hands-on experience with horses. Cabrillo College is only 20 minutes away. A dressage trainer and driving instructor are here regularly and there is a possibility of learning more about these disciplines.
Legal paperwork and a background check (we pay for it) are absolute requirements.
Job entails: 2-3 hour shifts 4-5 days per week.
* Must be self disciplined and be able to work well without supervision.
* Getting up early in the morning to feed & clean stalls for 3-8 adult horses + one weanling;
* Turning out and lunging the horses;
* +/-evening feeding and stall cleaning for some shifts;
* keeping the barn & surrounding areas — arena, round pen, hayshed & chicken coop – clean and neat;
* occasionally helping with medications and/or breeding a mare or foaling;
* caring for a small flock of chickens; fresh eggs!
* help take care of 2 cats;
Weed whacking, mowing, dragging the arena and mowing and manure spreading with the tractor.
Fresh eggs, fruit & veggies are available at times
Location: Lovely 20-acre property in the beautiful Corralitos Hills in the foothills of Mt. Madonna on the Watsonville side.
*Qualifications*
* Excellent experience in animal husbandry and care is a must
* Ability to lift 50# is a must
* Strong background in farming and agriculture is a plus
* Mechanical knowledge with farm machinery and equipment repair is a plus
* Supervisory experience in a ranch or agricultural setting would be a plus
* Skilled in welding and using hand and power tools is a plus
* Ability to manage irrigation systems for a garden is a plus
Pay: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour
