Wiers Farm, Inc. is a 6th‑generation Grower, Packer, and Shipper of fresh vegetables with growing operations throughout the United States. Headquartered in Willard, Ohio, we distribute over 30 different produce commodities to retail, wholesale, foodservice, and institutional customers nationwide.
*Position Summary: Assistant Farm Manager*
We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Assistant Farm Manager to support daily field operations and crop production systems at our Willard, Ohio location. Reporting to growing operations leadership, this salaried position plays a key role in ensuring crops are produced efficiently, safely, and at the highest quality standards.
This role is heavily focused on crop health management, chemical and fertility programs, irrigation and drainage systems, and coordination of field operations and tractor crews. The ideal candidate is proactive, hands‑on, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced agricultural environment while maintaining strong communication and leadership skills.
*Key Responsibilities*
_Crop Health & Production Management_
· Monitor and scout fields to evaluate crop health, nutrient levels, pest pressure, and disease risk
· Make timely recommendations to improve crop performance
· Assist with planning and execution of planting, fertility, and crop input programs
_Chemical & Fertility Program Management_
· Manage chemical and fertilizer programs by planning application schedules and directing chemical handlers on what products to apply, including rates and timing
· Coordinate daily and weekly schedules for spray and application crews to ensure timely and efficient execution
· Provide clear instructions and oversight to applicators while ensuring all applications meet regulatory and company standards (this role does not serve as the primary applicator)
· Maintain accurate records of applications, usage, and field history
· Monitor effectiveness of programs and adjust recommendations as needed
_Irrigation & Drainage Management_
· Manage irrigation systems to maintain proper soil moisture levels
· Coordinate pump setups, water distribution, and irrigation timing
· Identify and resolve drainage issues across fields
_Tractor Crews & Field Execution_
· Lead and coordinate tractor crews performing field operations
· Ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to company standards
· Train and develop employees on equipment use and best practices
_Equipment & Farm Maintenance_
· Assist with preventative maintenance and repair coordination for tractors and equipment
· Maintain operational readiness of all field machinery
_Additional Responsibilities_
· Maintain accurate records for crop inputs, irrigation, and field activities
· Assist with daily scheduling and short‑term planning
· Communicate field conditions and priorities with management
· Ensure adherence to safety policies and proper use of PPE
· Support logistics and packing operations during off‑season periods
*Qualifications*
Minimum Requirements
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or related field, or 5+ years of relevant farming experience
· Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in fresh vegetable or specialty crop production
· Strong understanding of crop inputs, irrigation systems, and soil management
· Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with farm equipment
· Ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities
· Basic computer skills (Excel, recordkeeping, etc.)
· Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons

*Compensation*
Salary range: $48,000 – $62,000 per year (based on experience and qualifications). Performance-based increases or bonuses may be available over time.
