Beef Farm Herdsman/Farm Worker
Full TimeJob Description
Mill Creek Farms is a 5th-generation family farm in Montgomery Co., VA. We have 250-300 spring and fall calving Angus cows on 1,200 acres.
We are looking for a full-time herdsman to assist with all aspects of a cattle operation including catching new calves and banding/tagging/vaccinating them, herd management and feeding, rotational grazing fence moves, weaning calves, stocker management, loading and hauling cattle, and all aspects of hay making and winter-time hay feeding.
You need to be relatively young and motivated to work hard. You should have basic cattle and tractor experience. You will have full-time hours, but seasonally variable (a low of 30 per week in the winter to 50-55 in peak hay season). Most of your work will be on weekdays, with a limited amount of weekend work on Saturdays during hay season.
Your pay will be by the hour, based on your experience level and what you can do. After training, 80% of the time you will work alone.
After your first year, you will go from hourly to a salary. My hope and goal is for you to be a longterm asset for us and to gradually take over all duties as I get older.
I have a single-wide home for you to live in, rent free.
You must have a valid driver’s license and pass a criminal background check, and have a least one good reference.
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
