*Overview*
Join our dynamic team as a Dairy Cattle Hooftrimming Technician and play a vital role in maintaining the health and productivity of dairy herds serviced by Allen’s Hoof Care LLC. This energetic position involves performing precise hoof trimming and hoof care procedures to prevent lameness and promote optimal animal welfare. You’ll work closely with farm management and animal care teams, utilizing your animal husbandry expertise to ensure the highest standards of hoof health. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop specialized skills in livestock care while contributing to sustainable farming practices.
*Responsibilities*
* Conduct regular hoof inspections and trimming procedures on dairy cattle to prevent lameness and improve mobility
* Operate a power grinder equipped with a specialized hoof-trimming wheel to safely and accurately trim hooves. Utilize hoof knives, and operate a Hooftrimming chute during hoof care operations
* Enter records of treatments, and hoof conditions, for each animal on our chute-side recording software.
* Assist with general animal handling, ensuring cattle are comfortable and calm during procedures
* Perform equipment maintenance, greasing or adjustments as needed to ensure tools and machinery are in top condition.
*Requirements*
* Prior experience working with dairy cattle is preferred but not required; willingness to learn is essential.
* Strong animal handling skills with a background in animal husbandry or livestock care.
* Able to perform basic daily maintenance on assigned equipment, to ensure safe and reliable operation.
* Basic math skills for measuring hoof dimensions or calculating treatment dosages.
* Knowledge of dairy farming practices, and sustainable livestock management techniques
