Farm Equipment Mechanic & Shop Assistant
*Position Description*: Saunders Brothers is a wholesale nursery and orchard operation in central Virginia. Saunders Brothers is looking for someone who is willing to assist in maintenance, repair, and fabrication of farm equipment and tractors. *Requirements and Duties:*
* Willing to assist in fabrication, production, and maintenance of farm equipment.
* Willing to assist in the repair and maintenance of tractors, wagons, sprayers, and farm equipment.
* Willing to assist in the maintenance of vehicles and farm trucks as needed.
* Able to weld or willing to learn to weld.
* Able to lift 50 lbs. and be able spend at least 8 hours per day standing. In addition, must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, squat, and twist around for at least 8 hours per day. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather.
* Able to read a tape measure, safely operate shop power tools, and be physically able to perform shop maintenance or repairs.
* Able to prioritize workload and have flexibility as work demands change.
* Have good communication and listening skills and willing to work cooperatively with other members of the maintenance team and entire team at Saunders Brothers.
* Willing to work with Hispanic workers and be open to learning Spanish.
* Willing to perform other duties as needed.

*Qualifications:*
* Preference will be given to applicants with a high school diploma or equivalent GED or a minimum of 3 months experience in equipment repair/maintenance is preferred.
* Preference will be given to candidates with welding experience.
* Must have a valid and insurable VA driver’s license.
*Start Date* As soon as a qualified candidate is identified.
*Supervisor: *This position will answer directly to the Shop Manager.
*Hours*: Typically, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5:00 PM with a lunch break midday. Summer hours are 7 AM to 4 PM to accommodate the heat. (Schedule changes with seasons.) Must be willing to work additional hours as workload dictates. Will be required to work some Saturdays and after hours as breakdowns or timely repairs are needed. This is a full-time, year-round position.

We also offer professional training and staff development for staff.
