*Directional Drill Operator – Job Description*
We are seeking an experienced *Directional Drill Operator* to join our underground utility construction team. The Directional Drill Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install fiber optic conduit, utility lines, and related infrastructure.
*Responsibilities*
* Operate HDD drill rigs and locating equipment to place conduit and utilities according to plans and specifications
* Read and interpret plans, maps, locates, and job layouts
* Perform potholing, locating, and safe digging procedures to avoid damage to existing utilities
* Set up, maintain, and break down drilling equipment, mud systems, and support gear
* Monitor drill head location, bore path, depth, and steering
* Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
* Keep accurate bore logs, footage reports, and site documentation
* Work closely with the drill locator, crew members, and project manager
* Follow all safety procedures, OSHA standards, and company policies
* Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site
*Requirements*
* Valid Class A CDL with clean driving record to receive starting wage of $300.00 per day
* Experience operating directional drilling equipment
* Strong understanding of underground utilities and locating practices
* Ability to operate a locator (preferred but not required depending on role)
* Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in varying weather
* Strong communication skills and attention to detail
