Position Summary
We’re looking for a dedicated Livestock Handler to help care for our cattle and assist with daily farm operations. This hands-on role involves feeding, monitoring livestock health, maintaining clean facilities, and supporting various farm activities. Ideal candidates are hardworking, detail-oriented, and passionate about animal care.
Key Responsibilities
Cattle Care & Management:
- Feed, water, and monitor cattle daily to ensure their health and nutrition.
- Observe animals for signs of illness or injury and report concerns promptly.
- Assist with routine cattle handling, including weighing, branding, and vaccinations.
Livestock Handling & Movement:
- Safely move cattle between pastures, barns, and feedlots.
- Help with loading/unloading cattle for transport, ensuring humane handling.
- Assist with sorting and grouping cattle for breeding, feeding, and health checks.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance:
- Keep barns, pens, and pastures clean and safe.
- Disinfect equipment and feeding areas to maintain health standards.
- Perform minor repairs on fences, pastures, and farm equipment.
Breeding & Calving Support:
- Assist with breeding activities and pregnancy monitoring.
- Support newborn calf care, ensuring proper nutrition and early health checks.
- (Artificial insemination certification is a plus.)
Record-Keeping & Farm Assistance:
- Maintain accurate records on herd health, feed intake, vaccinations, and breeding cycles.
- Support farm operations, including herd rotation and seasonal tasks like branding or auctions.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with cattle or livestock preferred (training provided).
- Basic knowledge of animal behavior, care, and welfare.
- Ability to safely handle large animals and operate basic farm equipment.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Team player with clear communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license preferred; ability to operate farm vehicles a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift/move up to 65 lbs.
- Comfortable working with large animals in a physically active environment.
- Able to bend, squat, kneel, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Willing to work in varying weather conditions.
