Job Summary
Tree Production I is responsible for shifting plants from smaller containers into larger containers as the plants grow. This role supports healthy plant development by following proper planting techniques and maintaining plant quality throughout the production process.
Employees in this role work as part of the production team to ensure plants are properly transplanted, organized, and maintained within the nursery.
Essential Functions
Identify plant varieties and evaluate plant quality prior to shifting.
Follow proper planting techniques including root pruning, correct planting depth, and proper irrigation practices.
Transplant plants from smaller containers into larger containers as directed.
Assist with stocking and organizing trees after shifting.
Utilize and maintain assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) and properly care for company tools and equipment.
Maintain nursery grounds by keeping work areas clean, organized, and safe for employees, customers, and vendors.
Handle nursery stock carefully and ensure plants are properly watered and placed in designated areas.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist other nursery departments as needed.
Support general nursery operations and plant care activities.
Duties are subject to change at any time per management’s discretion.
Experience & Other Requirements
Required
Ability to identify plant material and recognize plant quality.
Ability to follow planting and transplanting techniques.
Ability to safely use tools and equipment used in nursery production.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Preferred
Previous experience working in a nursery, landscape, or agricultural environment.
Experience with transplanting or plant production activities.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position is performed primarily outdoors in active nursery production environments.
Work conditions include varying weather conditions, uneven ground surfaces, active equipment and vehicle traffic, and exposure to dust, plant material, moisture, and seasonal allergens. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as applicable.
Physical requirements include:
Extensive walking throughout the nursery during the workday.
Frequent bending, twisting, turning, squatting, kneeling, and crouching.
Working on uneven surfaces including dirt, gravel, plant material, and irrigated areas.
Use of hands and fingers for grasping and moving plant material.
Lifting up to 50 lbs independently (approximately 75% of the time).
Participating in team lifts up to 100 lbs (approximately 25% of the time).
