Assistant Farm Manager

Job Description

*Job Summary*
The Assistant Farm Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the farm, ensuring that all agricultural activities are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position requires a hands-on approach to managing farm tasks, supervising staff, and maintaining equipment while fostering a safe and productive environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agriculture, animal husbandry, and mechanical knowledge, along with excellent leadership skills.

*Responsibilities*

* Assist the Farm Manager in overseeing daily farm operations and staff supervision.
* Ensure proper animal care and handling, including feeding, health checks, and maintenance of living conditions.
* Operate and maintain farm machinery, including tractors and other heavy equipment.
* Perform equipment repairs and maintenance to ensure optimal functionality.
* Manage irrigation systems and ensure proper watering of crops.
* Participate in planting, growing, and harvesting activities across various agricultural sectors.
* Utilize hand tools and power tools for various farming tasks as needed.
* Maintain records related to crop production, livestock health, and equipment usage.
* Implement safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all staff members.
* Provide training to new employees on farm procedures and equipment operation.

*Qualifications*

* Previous supervising experience in a farm or agricultural setting is preferred.
* Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in equipment repair and maintenance.
* Familiarity with animal husbandry practices and animal care requirements.
* Experience operating forklifts and heavy machinery safely.
* Knowledge of horticulture practices, greenhouse management, and crop production techniques.
* Ability to perform heavy lifting as required by farm tasks.
* Proficiency in basic math skills for record keeping and inventory management.
* Experience with welding is a plus for equipment repair tasks.
