Farm Food Processing Manager/crew
*Position Description:*
Responsible for all aspects of washing, preparing and packing of freshly harvested vegetables for local farmers markets and other sales outlets. Estimated 16 – 30 hours per week.
*Preference given to applicants with:*
* Previous experience working on a farm or similar food prep/packaging experience.
* Interest in farming
* Available to occasionally fill in at farmers markets on weekends.
* Drivers license
* Commitment to working the entire season ending in November
*Compensation:*
$21 – $24 per hour depending on experience.
Free weekly fruit and vegetables
*Requirements:*
* Punctuality and reliability a must (the position involves some morning hours)
* Thursday – Saturday (half day) schedule.
* Strong attention to detail. Able to follow a checklist and SOP’s.
* Able to work in all weather conditions. The workspace is sheltered but affected by the weather.
* 18 + years old
* Reliable transportation to the Farm in Katonah, NY
* Able to log activities and keep accurate records
* Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
* Able to work while standing most of the shift
* Basic knowledge of Organic Produce helpful or willingness to learn
* Good communication skills
* Ability and desire to work in a fast paced crew/team environment
* Ability to work independently once fully trained
*Responsibilities:*
* Follow daily schedule and work closely with Farm Manager, Markets Manager, and the Farming Team to complete daily washing and packing goals. This usually includes the washing, trimming, cleaning, weighing and portioning of freshly harvested produce and then logging all required data into the proper logs.
* After processing, the produce is then packed into coolers and crates for the weekend farmers markets and also divided into individual orders.
* Work with other management/employees at farm as necessary.
* Opportunities to learn and work other farming skills and duties, and/or farmers market shifts possible.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00 – $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 18.0 – 24.0 per week
