*Position Description*
Cruze Farm in Strawberry Plains is hiring for a Part time/Full time Milking/Farm Hand position. The ideal candidate would be an excellent communicator and have the ability to see the beauty of working for a small family farm. They would be able to follow the milking protocols completely while identifying and segregating milk unsuitable for sale. The ideal candidate would also have a passion and enthusiasm for the well being of the cattle and for expanding their knowledge to improve the herd’s health.

Tuesday: 4-9pm
Thursday: 4-9pm
Friday: 4-9pm
Saturday: 4-9pm
Must Be:

*Responsibilities*
1. Prepare milking equipment and bulk tank for milking.
2. Bring in cows for milking or help other employees bring in cows if needed or requested.
3. Wear gloves when milking to help prevent spread of mastitis-causing organisms.
4. Follow protocol for the pre-milking preparation of cattle before milking.
5. Milk all cows in an orderly, proper and consistent manner.
6. Be certain to look at treatment records so that milk from treated cows is not put into the bulk tank. As well as identify treated cows with appropriate markers, such as leg bands, and clay markers.
7. Note cows that may have mastitis or other problems and inform the milking manager for possible treatment. (No treatment will be done without permission of the general manager.)
8. Clean the milking parlor, holding area and milking equipment.
9. Operate all milking equipment as recommended by the milking manager.
10. After milking, be sure all machinery and sanitation procedures are followed according to
manufacturer’s specification and Grade A Standards of the Public Milk Ordinance.
11. Communicate with the milking manager if any calves need a bottle or trough fed.
12. Operating motor vehicles and/or farm equipment.

Standing- Walking- Lifting/Carrying/Reaching overhead 0-25 Lbs- Bending/Squatting/Twisting-Continuous 6 to 8+ Hours
Lifting/Carrying 25-50 lbs- Occasional Up to 3 Hours
Climbing Uneven Surfaces or Elevations (e.g., fields, hills, cow paths)- twice a shift
Loud noise levels – repeatedly for entire shift
Marked changes in humidity or temperature per season
Sustained attention and concentration – Frequent 3 to 6+ Hours
Complex problem solving/reasoning – Frequent 3 to 6+ Hours
Communication skills – Continuous
Multiple Concurrent Tasks – Continuous 6 to 8+ Hours
