The Preserve Equestrian Center offers diverse riding experiences from trail rides to a large, insulated indoor arena. Beyond riding experiences and wagon rides we also offer a variety of equine experiences for all ages, from “Paint the Pony” parties, to grooming and bonding experiences we work to encourage mankind’s enduring connections with horses.
The Senior Ranch Hands are responsible for the care and management of our equine team and the equestrian property. You would also be involved in providing high quality experiences for our club members and resort guests.
*What you will be doing:*
* Responsible for ordering supplies including Agway and hay vendors; manages farrier visits and dumpster pickups.
* Manages the driving program including training the horses, maintaining the wagons, and teaching driving lessons.
* Oversees the maintenance of the Equestrian Center property and serves as the property liaison with the Grounds and Maintenance teams. Responsible for mowing, property upkeeps, and general repairs.
* Manage the sheep herd including feeding and upkeep of den.
* Clean and bed stalls; clean paddocks.
* Clean and fill waters; feed hay and grain for horses, feed and water sheep herd.
* Turn horses in/out, checking and adapting for weather and adding blankets as needed.
* Ride, exercise, and train herd; conduct general horse care including grooming, first aid, and administering medications.
* Work with guests for all activities including trail rides, lessons, children’s activities, barn tours, and other activities.
* Maintain barn areas including tack room, raking barn and stalls, blowing main aisle, drag arenas, remove cobwebs, and maintain kitchen area and running laundry as needed.
* Clean & discard exterior waste, clean out tractor & gator, and blow out driveway as needed.
* Maintain riding trails as needed.
* Attends stand up meetings when Farm Manager is unavailable.
* Conduct general repairs as needed.
* May assist with other departments as needed; Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Farm Manager.
*Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations*
* 4+ years of experience working with horses.
* *Must be available on weekends and holidays*
* Able to operate farm vehicles and equipment and basic maintenance and repair.
* Understanding of how to check and report on horse health.
* Demonstrated experience with horse training.
* Understanding of and ability to uphold excellent horse grooming skills.
* Upholds high standards of cleanliness.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.
* Able to work weekends and able to remain on property during inclement weather or to care for a sick animal.
* Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in all weather conditions.
* Able to walk 10+ miles each shift.
* Open to training, able to follow directions, including dress code; respects the chain of management.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour
