Greenhouse Worker Job Description
*Position Summary*
The Greenhouse Worker is responsible for the daily care, maintenance, and presentation of plants throughout the greenhouse and outdoor sales areas. This position helps ensure healthy, high-quality plants while providing outstanding customer service. Team members perform a variety of hands-on tasks including watering, planting, merchandising, inventory maintenance, and assisting customers with selecting plants and gardening products.
*Essential Duties & Responsibilities*
Plant Care
* Water plants according to established schedules and plant needs.
* Monitor plants daily for signs of disease, insects, nutrient deficiencies, or stress.
* Deadhead, prune, pinch, trim, and groom plants to maintain appearance and health.
* Fertilize plants according to company procedures.
* Apply pesticides or fungicides only if properly trained and authorized.
* Move plants as needed to maximize growing conditions and retail presentation.
Greenhouse Production
* Plant plugs, liners, seeds, bulbs, and cuttings into appropriate containers.
* Prepare hanging baskets, combination planters, and seasonal displays.
* Transplant plants into larger containers as needed.
* Label plants accurately with pricing and care information.
* Assist with greenhouse setup, seasonal transitions, and crop organization.
Retail & Merchandising
* Maintain clean, attractive, and fully stocked sales areas.
* Create appealing plant displays throughout the greenhouse and nursery.
* Restock merchandise and garden center supplies.
* Rotate inventory to ensure the freshest product is available.
* Keep walkways clean, safe, and free of debris.
Customer Service
* Greet every customer in a friendly and professional manner.
* Assist customers in selecting plants, trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, vegetables, and gardening supplies.
* Answer questions regarding plant care, watering, fertilizing, insects, and planting recommendations.
* Load mulch, soil, plants, pottery, and other merchandise into customer vehicles.
* Operate the cash register as needed.
Facility Maintenance
* Sweep and clean greenhouse floors and work areas.
* Remove weeds from greenhouse and nursery areas.
* Empty trash and recycling.
* Maintain tools, carts, hoses, and watering equipment.
* Assist with snow removal, seasonal cleanup, and general property maintenance.
Inventory & Receiving
* Receive and unload plant shipments.
* Inspect incoming inventory for quality.
* Price and tag merchandise.
* Assist with inventory counts.
* Organize storage and back stock areas.
*Qualifications*
* Passion for plants, gardening, and horticulture.
* Ability to learn plant identification and care requirements.
* Excellent customer service and communication skills.
* Dependable, self-motivated, and positive attitude.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Previous greenhouse or garden center experience preferred but not required.
*Physical Requirements*
* Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
* Stand and walk for extended periods.
* Bend, kneel, squat, and reach throughout the workday.
* Push and pull loaded carts.
* Work in varying temperatures, humidity, and outdoor weather conditions.
* Ability to work weekends and seasonal overtime during peak spring and holiday seasons.
*Knowledge & Skills*
* Basic understanding of annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, vegetables, herbs, and houseplants (or willingness to learn).
* Ability to follow watering schedules and plant care instructions.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Good organizational and time management skills.
* Ability to multitask in a fast-paced seasonal environment.

Pay: $12.00 – $16.00 per hour
