Animal Care & Ranch Hand
We are looking for a reliable, hardworking Animal Care & Ranch Hand to join our private ranch and assist with the daily care of our animals, along with general ranch upkeep and maintenance.
This is a hands-on, active position working primarily with large dogs and primitive breeds, as well as helping feed and clean up after a small number of other ranch animals.
We are looking for someone who genuinely loves animals, isn’t afraid of physical work, and is comfortable jumping in wherever help is needed around a ranch.
It is crucial that applicants have significant experience handling large, powerful dogs and are genuinely confident and comfortable around them. Experience with primitive breeds, working breeds, or similar dogs is strongly preferred.
We are also looking for someone with calm, confident, positive energy around animals. The right person understands canine body language, knows how to remain composed and aware, and can build trust while still respecting boundaries and following established handling protocols.
This is not an entry-level animal-care position. We need someone who is naturally comfortable around large dogs, has good instincts with animals, and takes safety and responsible handling seriously.
Responsibilities
* Daily feeding and watering of animals
* Cleaning and maintaining animal enclosures and surrounding areas
* Exercising, handling, and providing enrichment for dogs
* Monitoring animals for changes in behavior, appetite, injuries, or other concerns
* Keeping feeding, water, and animal-care areas clean and organized
* Feeding and helping clean up after a few additional ranch animals
* General ranch cleanup and upkeep
* Assisting with property and enclosure maintenance
* Following individual feeding, medication, handling, and care instructions
* Communicating clearly about any issues noticed during a shift
Ranch & Maintenance Experience Is a Huge Plus
We would especially love to find someone who is handy and comfortable helping with the day-to-day things that inevitably come up on a ranch.
Experience with any of the following is a major plus:
* Fencing and fence repairs
* Water lines, hoses, troughs, and basic plumbing
* Gates, latches, locks, and enclosure repairs
* Using basic hand and power tools
* Troubleshooting and fixing minor ranch/property issues
* General outdoor property maintenance
* Building or repairing animal areas and enclosures
You do not need to be a professional contractor, but being the type of person who can notice something is broken and know how to fix it is extremely valuable for this position.
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, calm around animals, physically capable, and comfortable working independently.
Experience with large dogs, primitive breeds, ranches, kennels, animal facilities, rescues, or similar environments is strongly preferred.
Applicants should be comfortable working outdoors, getting dirty, lifting feed and supplies, cleaning animal areas, and working around large and powerful dogs.
Above everything, we need someone who shows up, pays attention, follows instructions, and genuinely cares about the animals and property they are responsible for.
Schedule: Part-time or full-time options available.
